Teen Adult Health Conference

The conference was an outreach to educate and to reach our youngsters and adults. From addressing sexually transmitted diseases, to mental health, to diabetes, heart health, Alzheimer’s and so on, the conference has sought to address the needs of the community. This year the Chas Drew Medical Auxiliary and the Los Angeles Links collaborated again for 18 years in co-sponsoring the annual health conference for the community. Both The Auxilians and the Links are proud of their accomplishment in having a continuing visible role in the Los Angeles Community and in maintaining such a powerful and meaningful presence by sustaining a much needed vehicle (The Annual Teen-Adult Health Conference) for educating our community.

Initially when the first Teen Health Conference was conceived and executed by former Drew Auxiliary President, Barbara Trotter, no one imagined that it would become the auxiliary’s signature health event in the Los Angeles and surrounding community and would ultimately become the Los Angeles Links annual hallmark community health event. Members of both The Links and the Auxiliary embrace the program and look forward to co sponsoring this collaborative community event every year. The conference hosts a variety of workshops including: Black Lives Matter, Civic Engagement, Human Trafficking, Social Media, STEMS Career Fair, Financial literacy, Heart health, diabetes, Mental Health, high blood pressure, and sexually transmitted diseases. The presenters include both Link members, physicians and professionals from all walks of life.

Both, our immediate past president, Carla Pittman and our current president, Janice Murray strongly support the event. Past president Carla asserts that the Teen/Adult Health Conference expands the Los Angeles Links Chapter’s sphere of collaboration to the medical organizations and to the Pan Hellenic organizations in the area. President Murray sees the conference as bringing added value to the service that Links give in our community as a direct implementation of all the Program facets and looks forward to next year’s event.
